kids should have less homework

Kids in today’s generation receive so much more homework than the kids in the later generation. Kids in junior high get at least 2-3 hours a night while high school students are getting 4-6 hours of homework a night. So many children in today’s generation are expected to complete so many tasks and it can be hard when you’re in school for 6 hours and when some students have work after school. Since we are in school for 6 hours long there should be no homework. Children need to have a social life or else sooner or later they won’t know how to socialize because they were too busy with theirs heads in their books trying to complete their homework assignments. If students are dedicating half their day in school why should there be homework? There is no need for it, teach it in school.

Back in the day kids were so lucky. Rarely ever did my mom ever have homework when she was a kid, and if she did it only took about 20-30 minutes to complete it. In my opinion if there is going to be homework that’s fine, but at least rotate the classes homework by day. For example Monday someone would just have science homework then Tuesday someone would just have math homework. Students are expected to do so much like get a car, keep a job, go to school, but yet they have barely any time to hang with their friends.

Homework has been a part of students lives for so long that the idea of not doing it can seem amazing. But if you stop to think about it, the truth is that homework is not necessary. Kids already have six hours of school. You start school at 7:20 and go home at 1:50. That’s a full day of school. Most adults work similar lengths of time at work and come home exhausted. Yet they can’t understand when their kids have trouble focusing at the end of a full day of learning. It’s unreasonable to make children spend too many hours studying. Students are still growing, their brains aren’t even fully developed yet, and it’s crucial that they get a lot of social time and free time. Something that they could do in thirty minutes if fully rested and energized will drag on for much longer if they’re restless and can’t focus because they left six hours of school to directly jump into 2-6 hours of homework.

Having a social and family life is very important. student deserve to have a balanced life. Many adults get angry if their work life spills over into their personal life. They like to go out after work and spend time with friends. But children should get the same respect. School is a time for learning, and it takes up much of the day. After school is the time for pursuing your own hobbies and personal pastimes. Schools really need to understand and grasp this or else student will end up like robots and not having socializing skills that you will later need in life.
