Should Social Media be banned in school?

Kids all around the world surround themselves with social media and electronics. Schools should not allow social media during school hours, due to the fact of bullying, self esteem, and the distraction. Kids of all ages are on social media there has always been the risk of stalking and just dangers all over the internet, where in my point of view is not needed to be brought into school.

Bullying in schools can be verbal and cyber, having social media in schools can allow cyber bullying to increase making others feel bad about themselves, not allowing students to go to school, or classes due to the fact other students are blowing their phone up with negative messages and posts. About 80 percent of teens use social media and half of them have been cyberbullied, making school, at home and being  by themselves a difficult task. Schools always attempt to stop bullying, but they can only do so much to make it stop. Banning social media or even phones from schools would allow students to feel safe for a period of time, and could potentially do a lot for some situations. Schools do not realize about how significant phones impact a students life, or their mood. Personally I believe if a student was to go a week without their phone, they would probably struggle but would finally realize how much social media is so negative towards others and always manages to ruins somebody’s day.

Phones and other electronics are a huge distraction when it comes to trying to learn and trying to type a paragraph to your bestie about your day and how awful it has been. Personally my phone never leaves my side, and that’s an issue. Schools should ban phones because of how big of a distraction they are to students learning and their environment. Learning about math and how to mix chemicals in science class are hard to do when your nose is buried into your phone scrolling through facebook. Some students use the excuse of using their phones saying its a “classroom tool” , remarking they will just look it up later. Schools from all over are putting their foot down about phones, but teens are no agreeing. It’s every teens new addiction and its getting out of hand where it needs to be banned.

Students self esteems are practically worked by social media. Teens try to work up to others potential and always look up to others. This is making students try to change themselves to look or act like these other people from models, actors, or even other students in the school. If you do not like yourself, social media can make it worse. When an individual looks up to someone they adapt the way they live, the way they look and all sorts of personality traits and looks. People will make it seem like they are someone they are not on social media. It should be banned from schools because people/students should be able to want to be themselves without having the thought they need to be better or someone they are not because they want to fit in.

I believe schools should ban social media and/or phones from schools due to the bullying, self esteem, and distractions students are having. Social media should be a privilege not a need.
