Are you interested in getting in shape and playing competitively? If you are, then playing a winter sport is just right for you. The first day of winter sports is November 28th, 2016. There are so many sports to choose from that will continue to get you active and participating at Middleboro High School. Also, if you play a spring sport than playing will help you be prepared for the season ahead. The choices are girl’s/boy’s basketball, ice hockey, swimming, track, and wrestling.

Girls Basketball: Girl’s basketball is a great way to stay in shape and work on coordination. There is room on the team for all great and dedicated athletes with the two teams, JV and Varsity. These teams are coached by Henry Colon and Kelly Rich. These two coaches and their team work hard to bring a great season into play.

Boys Basketball: Boys basketball is a great sport that Middleboro holds that will help you with coordination and your strength. This team has three parts which are Freshman, JV and Varsity. These three teams are coached by Steve Fernandez, Mike Grandfield, and Troy Medeiros. These coached and their team are planning to work hard in their upcoming season to succeed in all 20 games from December to February.

Ice Hockey: Have you ever played hockey before? Do you enjoy skating on the ice? If you do than ice hockey is the sport for you. The sachems hockey coach is Scott Drevitch. This upcoming season there will be 20 games for all players. Hockey is great for your cardiovascular system, coordination, and to help build your strength. Thinking about playing? Than give it a try!

Swimming: Do you enjoy to swim? Thinking about doing it competitively? Than you should join the swim team! The team who’s coached by Tara Morano and Everett Clark will be competing with other towns in 13 meets this winter. There are many styles of swimming such as the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle. You can also dive. In this category you can do reverse, inward, forward, backwards, and twisting. Interested? Than join the swim team!

Track: Do you like to run? If you do, winter track is the choice for you. There are many categories that you can choose from that suite your abilities such as mid-distance, long distance, sprinting, hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump, or relays. This strong team is coached by Middleboro High’s own Sean Kinney and Jaqui May-Beaton. There are a total of five meets this season which are all in Boston at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Wrestling: Wrestling is a great sport that Middleboro holds that can help you to stay in shape. It can also improve your mental skills and keep your body conditioned if you play a spring sport. Any student at Middleboro High can do it! This upcoming season there is 13 wrestling matches. With coach Paul Donovan this team is a fun way to get a workout and have some fun. If your interested go ahead and try it!
