The Success Of Patrick Mahones Journalism September 25, 2018October 15, 2018 Aidan Carry Journalism 1 The Success Of Patrick Mahones During the past 3 weeks of the NFL season, Patrick Mahomes has been probably the hottest topic all over the country. People commonly ask, Why is he doing so good? Will he keep his greatness rolling into the next few weeks? If he keeps up the pace he is going, he is looking to shatter the NFL record for most touchdowns thrown by a quarterback in one season by a good 10+ TD’s. That’s not only impressive to break the record by so much, but the fact that it’s from second year Quarterback makes it even more stunning. Patrick Mahomes II is just only 23 years old, putting up numbers bigger than veteran quarterbacks in their high thirties and even low forties. He is competing with men almost double his age. Mahomes has led to team to a great 3-0 start to their season. Mahomes has thrown for 896 yards in 3 weeks. According to https://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/player-passing-yard s-per-game-statistics/2016/, Top notch Elite backs throw anywhere over 300 passing yards, and thats where Mahomes is as his first season as a starting QB. He has already set an all-time record and is on pace for more. Mahomes has already set a record for the most touchdowns thrown in the first 3 games, throwing 13, and passing Peyton Manning’s record of 12. He has also thrown touchdowns to 9 different receivers, and the record is held by Matt Ryan with 13, in his unstoppable 2016-2017 season. All he has to do is throw touchdowns to 4 different receivers to tie, and 5 to break it… with 13+ games left. Through his 3 games so far, he hasn’t thrown an interception. The fact that the other team hasn’t intercepted the ball, in 93 pass attempts, is pretty insane. He has completed passes, meaning his pass completion is 66.7%. The average NFL average is about 60%. Mahomes has lead his team to their first three victories of the season. In the season opener, the Chiefs won over the Chargers 38-28, Mahomes throwing 4 touchdowns for 256 yards. In week 2, the Chiefs fought a hard game against the Steelers, and won, 42-37. Mahomes threw 6 touchdowns, scoring all of the points for the Chiefs. He also threw for 326 yards. And, last week, the Kansas city Chiefs played the San Francisco 49er’s and won 38-27, Mahomes, throwing for 314 yards. Mahomes is a leader. In the past years, the Chiefs have never been able to pull the team together through the entire season. There’s been years in the past where the Chiefs have has successful starts, but the team has never looked as good as they do now. They just needed someone like Mahomes to magnetize and secure the team, wrapping everything together. The success of Patrick Mahomes has been a trending topic all over the media. He can currently be compared to the veterans of the league, which is very hard to do, especially at the early stages of a career. Will Mahomes continue to shine and be greater than the best?
