Abortion
Abortion has been a controversial issue since the first abortion in the 1800’s.Campaigns against abortions began in the 1800’s as well and little progressed until after the civil war. In order to get an abortion, women would go to their friends house or give themselves an ‘at home abortion’ using a coat hanger in the bathtub. This at home process killed and injured many women resulting in rallies and protests to get abortion legalized. The rallies and protests resulted in counter rallies and protests against abortion. In 1973 abortion was legalized throughout all 50 states and has been legal ever since, but many people, especially conservatives and people that are passionate about their religion are extremely anti-abortion.
During Donald Trump’s election there was a lot of buzz that he would abolish the legality of abortion. Since his election,  it is still up in the air that he will try to get rid of abortion because he has not done anything to convey people to side against it. Trump’s argument along with many conservatives and other anti-abortion groups argue that it is murder but studies and growth charts show that the time period in a pregnancy where abortion is legal, the fetus has not yet developed into a baby and is merely a bundle of cells.Those who are anti-abortion also argue that the cells would amount to something and that is true but for the women who have those children, the children sometimes are preventing them from their own chance at amounting to something.
Another argument is that those women should give their children up for adoption if they do not wish to keep them. Anti-abortionists will come up with arguments all day and all night to counteract the claims of those who are pro abortion but the bottom line is that is the woman’s body meaning that what happens to her body is HER business and no one else’s. 1 in 6 women are raped and every 98 seconds an american is sexually assaulted. Those statistics are absolutely disgusting. Women and children so often lose the choice to control their bodies so who is a man or any other person who is not bearing that child allowed to tell a woman what she should do with it.
Recently in the news the newest supreme court justice, Kavanaugh, was accused of sexual assault. This man was accused by not just one women but a few. This is the same man who “doesn’t believe” in the motion that legalizes abortion.Trump does not have the power to take away the right to get an abortion bus this monster of a man will if he is elected into supreme court office.
It is our job as voters, as American’s and most importantly as women, to protect our daughters, our mothers and all the other wonderful women. We need to protect these women from the men and the others who want to take away our right to control our bodies.
