The Jamal Khashoggi Case Journalism October 17, 2018October 25, 2018 The Jamal Khashoggi Case Olivia Pasquarello October 17,2018 On October 2, 2018, A Saudi Arabia journalist known as Jamal Khashoggi went to the Saudi consulate not knowing that he would never leave that building alive. He entered the building because he wanted to get papers signed so he can marry his fiance. Turkish officials investigated the case and assumed he was killed (dismembered) other than medical reasons. The turkish officials have 15 suspects all in relation to the royal prince. After more investigating, The turkish officials have evidence that the suspects took a jet to the consulate, dismembered Jamal Khashoggi then flew back. They investigated the jet the 15 suspects came on and it was connected to the royal family. The Saudi Arabian family said that they do not know anything about this case and have nothing to do with it. When President Donald Trump heard about this he didn’t think the U.S needed to get involved but congress thought otherwise so they used the 2012 International Sanctions law that makes the U.S investigate the case. After one day the turkish officers found a audio recording of the killing. Now they know that as soon as Jamal Khashoggi entered the building he was immediately seized and questioned. That’s when the dismembering started. The agents apart of this dismembering were in the building for two hours! Once the agents were identified by locals, friends, family and research they found out that of the fifteen consisted of military leaders, a forensics scientist and security guard to the royal prince. Jamal Khashoggi is a 59 year old journalist who is a main critic for Saudi Arabia’s leadership. He is so well known outside of Saudi Arabia because he was an advisor to the adviser to the ambassador to london, the prince of Turki Al-Faisal, and throughout 2000’s deputy and editor of chief of the Arab news. He started writing opinion posts in the washington post last year about what he thought of the country doing certain things such as how they treat religion because he got fired for writing his opinions in the Arab news. About a year ago he went into exile in the US because he wanted freedom and didn’t want to get arrested. There is no evidence to prove that the prince had any tension with Jamal or why the prince would hire 15 agents to dismember him. Jamal must’ve done something that really upset them because they made the dismembering take two hours. Turkish officials say the agents dismembered Jamal with a bone. The fifteen agents bought that bone on the plane with them while they were on the way to the consulate. Since this event is so recents officials on the case have not released how the agents knew jamal was going to be there at that place in time as well as when the plane came from and flew back to.
