Rice Krispie Treats Journalism October 23, 2018November 1, 2018 Rice Krispie Treats Rice Krispie treats were my absolute favorite thing to make with my mom growing up. Rice Krispies are so simple, so sweet, and are easily manipulated to fit any occasion. My mom and I would make them together and no sooner were they formed into creative shapes, were they completely gone. I grew up thinking everyone could make these treats perfectly because they were so simple but much to my dismay, many people are able to somehow screw up this simple treat. Instead of biting into an o-so-delicious ooey gooey treat, I found myself biting into what seemed to be archaic rock. To make matters worse the mass of gravel was unsuccessfully masked with a sweetness that gave me the urge to rip my teeth out. Luckily for these doomed treat makers, these catastrophic mistakes can easily be fixed. The first tip to make your rice krispie treats unforgettable is to add your own flare to them. I have never met a candy I didn’t like so adding a handful of sweet confection to your bars will only enhance the magical flavor (so do it).Or even add different cereals, fruity pebbles gives a hint of flavor and people will go nuts for your buttery, flakey combination. Now that you have added your own flare to your treats, its time to fix the internal problems because much like a teenage girl, looking good is only half the battle if what’s inside sucks. If your rice krispie treats do not ooze marshmallow and exert moisture in every bite, you are serving rock. To avoid injuries in the roof of your mouth use 4 cups of mini marshmallows for every 3 cups of cereal. This insures that they are not too many marshmallows making it a crumbling disaster, but not so hard that you endure ptsd from past occasions. If you are trying to achieve some real gooey action, sprinkle a cup of the marshmallows through the mix (unmelted). Just like the chocolate chip cookies, the next step to fixing your treats is the butter. Using salted butter counteract some of the sweetness allowing your rice krispie treats to be sweet, but not so sweet that your gums punish you. Once your rice krispie treats are done, store them at room temperature so they do not dry out, but they are better while they are warm in my opinion. Once you have mastered these treats you can form these treats in to anything. Eggs for Easter, Christmas trees for well, Christmas and anything else. These treats can be used as the base to a cake or you could ever transform them into a more complex dessert. One of my favorite things to do with rice krispies is to turn them into smores bars. In order to transform them into smores bars you make the rice krispies like normal and lay them flat in a pan. Then you melt you favorite chocolate into a bowl and lay it over top of the rice krispies, before the chocolate drys, crush up graham crackers and dust the top of the chocolate. If you want to add an extra layer of marshmellow you can layer the top of the chocolate and graham crackers with more marshmallows and broil them to get the toasty crispness we all crave from a smore. Just by switching up a few things when making rice krispies you create a whole new world of ooey gooey goodness that will indefinitely put a smile on the face of anyone that consumes them unless they don’t like rice krispie treats and in that case, get rid of them and eat the treats by yourself, talk about treating yourself.
