High Schools came from anywhere in the North Eastern part of the United States came to compete against other schools. There were six different categories for the racers to race in and at 9:20 am the races began. The first race was two and a half miles and was the freshman female group of racers from each high school. The people that raced for Middleboro were freshmen Shaelyn Gallagher and Anna DiBona. “On your mark, get set….” and the gun was fired as the racers took off towards the trails. Shaelyn Gallagher took ninth overall with a time of about sixteen minutes, receiving a medal for coming in the top 25 racers. Anna DiBona took sixty seventh overall with time of about eighteen minutes. Next the freshmen males race was also two and a half miles, with racers from many different high school. The third race of the day was the female JV race that was 2.98 miles which could include sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The females that ran for Middleboro were Catrina Bingham Maas and Ruth Mahoney. Catrina finished first for Middleboro getting a time of around thirty minutes, with a big kick at the end that moved her up a couple places over all. Ruth Mahoney finished the race towards the end of the pack of racers with a time around thirty six minutes. The last race that the Middleboro Sachems participated in was the male JV race that was also 2.98 miles, like the female JV race. The players that were representing Middleboro were senior captain Michael O’Shaughnessy, Milo Olivia, Paul Giovanoni, Jayden Carveiro, Mason Davenport and Eric Baldwin. These players are sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Michael O’Shaughnessy helped pace Paul Giovanoni throughout the race and at the end Paul Giovanoni beat Michael O’Shaughnessy to the finish line. Jayden Carveiro came in right after Michael O’Shaughnessy. After Jayden, came Mason Davenport and Eric Baldwin with a really close finish. Last to come in for Middleboro but not to far behind was Milo Olivia. The Middleborough Sachems Cross Country team did a great job in representing the Middleboro Sachems by doing their best in all of the races. In each race there was about two hundred to three hundred competitors from all different high schools. Most of the races that Middleboro ran in had rain throughout the race but they still all ran a great race. The Middleboro Sachem Cross Country team who is coached by May Beaton and Kinney will continue their season until mid November. Good luck Middleboro Sachems!
